The hunter first hears Gore Magala before seeing it. The Iceshard Cliffs does not roll out a welcome mat; it offers wind, ice, and a silence that feels borrowed. Then the wings open. The antennae rise. The fight begins.
By 2026, Gore Magala still sits near the top of the High Rank wall in Monster Hunter Wilds. It is a monster that wears the dark like a tailored coat, all wings and hunger, and it can end a careless hunt with one brutal slam. A hunter who respects its rhythm can survive. A hunter who gets greedy... well, the Cliffs keeps what it catches.

Where the Black Wings Wait
Gore Magala typically appears at the very end of the High Rank main campaign. The quest is called 'A World Turned Upside Down,' and it arrives near the end of Chapter 5-2. The assignment sends the hunter into the Iceshard Cliffs to track and hunt the beast. After that first completion, Gore Magala spawns exclusively in the Iceshard Cliffs region.
It can appear in any weather and at any time of day, but it tends to show up during the Fallow cycle in the Morning. If the map is empty, the hunter can rest at a Pop-Up Camp or Base Camp tent and set the environment to Fallow and the time to Morning. That is not a typo—even this walking nightmare can be scheduled around.
Two endgame quests also feature the monster: 'Shrouded in Black' and 'Misty Depths.' The first also requires a Blangonga hunt. The second asks only for Gore Magala to be slain.

A Monster Built From Bad News
Gore Magala has no traditional eye sensory organs. Instead, it uses fine scales scattered from its wings to locate prey. When its sensory capacity increases, antennae appear on its head and the wings unfurl. That is the Frenzy State, and it is every bit as aggressive as it sounds.
The black scales can Frenzy other creatures, too. The monster does not knock politely before spreading chaos; it simply arrives and lets the scales do the talking.
Weaknesses and Breakable Parts
Gore Magala resists only Water, which is ineffective against all of its parts. It is immune to Flash Pods and Sonic Bombs, but it can be affected by every status effect. That is right—even a monster this large can be Paralyzed, put to Sleep, Stunned, or Exhausted.
| Weak Spot | What to Know |
|---|---|
| Antenna | Breakable, tied to its sensory state |
| Jaw | Breakable target |
| Tail | Breakable, but do not linger behind it |
| Wings | Breakable and take extra damage from regular attacks |
| Legs | Take a little extra damage from regular attacks |
| Torso | Very well defended |
The antenna, jaw, tail, and wings are all breakable weak spots. The torso is heavily protected, so hunters should aim for the wings and legs when they need steady damage.

The Attacks That End Hunts
Gore Magala has a huge moveset, and its close-range slam is the star of the nightmare. The boss rises onto its hind legs, then crashes down with all its might. The impact blasts the hunter backward and inflicts Frenzy. This is its single hardest-hitting attack, and without upgraded High Rank armor it can one-shot a hunter outright.
If the HP bar is going haywire, the hunter is in range to get deleted by that move. Sprint to the side or call the Seikret and leave. Do not get greedy, hunter.
The boss also charges, swipes, and slashes. Most of those melee attacks can be avoided by dodging twice to the side. Hunters who dodge underneath the boss rather than away from it will find that the majority of its melee attacks miss. Melee players often have an easier time than ranged players here because staying under the monster is such a strong defensive position.
Do not dodge into the boss during its charge attacks. Watch which side it rears back to before a swipe, then dodge to the other side. When it rears up to one side, it is usually about to cleave with its claws or blast a Frenzy cloud around itself. Dodge at least twice underneath the boss to escape the area-of-effect range.
Stay beneath the torso as much as possible. The monster is so large that its own body blocks most of its melee threats. Do not stick to the tail, though. Hanging out by the rear for too long invites a tail swipe, and that is a difficult attack to avoid.
When Gore Magala takes to the air, mount the Seikret and focus on avoiding its ranged Frenzy blasts instead of dealing damage—unless the build is ranged. It does not stay airborne for long and eventually crashes back down.

Preparation Is Half the Hunt
Because almost all of Gore Magala's attacks can inflict Frenzy, especially the smoke-based ones, the item pouch should carry Nulberries. A Food Buff, Power Charm, Armor Charm, and high-level Potions are not optional luxuries. They are the difference between a story and a statistic.
The monster moves fast and hits hard. Hunters should be ready to make space to heal. When it is stunned or Paralyzed, healing is often better than attacking the downed beast. It is not personal; it is just a really big claw.
Gore Magala typically moves to a location with Floating Rubble environmental hazards. The trick is to position the monster between the hunter and the rubble, then use the slinger to pull it down for massive damage. The Cliffs is not helping. It is just waiting to see who uses the terrain better.
Rewards, Materials, and Titles
Hunting Gore Magala gives a chance at specific monster materials for weapons, armor, and other equipment. Like all monster materials, drops are not guaranteed from skinning or Target Rewards, and some pieces become more likely when specific parts are broken. A hunter may need multiple Gore Magala hunts to finish a build.
Titles arrive after certain hunt counts:
-
Hunt 20x Gore Magala: Gore Magala
-
Hunt 30x Gore Magala: Infection
-
Hunt 40x Gore Magala: Frenzy
-
Hunt 50x Gore Magala: Eclipse

The hunter who learns to stay low, dodge under, carry Nulberries, and respect the slam will eventually walk away with the parts. The hunter who panics... becomes part of the Cliffs. Gore Magala is not a fair fight. It is a lesson. And in 2026, it remains one of the best, meanest lessons Monster Hunter Wilds has to offer.
