Alright, fellow hunters, let’s address the woolly mammoth in the room. Actually, let’s address the fact that the woolly mammoth can’t even get into the room because the doorway is too narrow. That’s the situation we’re in with Monster Hunter Wilds in 2026. Capcom’s latest entry has the smallest array of large monsters in modern Monster Hunter titles, which is both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, it’s a shame that there’s seemingly a lack of content at launch. On the other hand, it leaves plenty of scope for Capcom to add series favorites later. And oh boy, do we have a list.

Players are desperate for the return of Bazelgeuse, and dozens more monsters have come up in discussions. But the longer the game has been out, the more we’ve realized that some of the series’ best monsters just won’t fit in Monster Hunter Wilds’ smaller maps. Is it too much to ask for a monster that doesn’t turn every hunt into a wall-hugging contest? Apparently, yes.

The Gammoth Problem: A Mammoth-Sized Heartbreak

Over on the Monster Hunter subreddit, players have been yearning for the return of Gammoth, a monster whose only appearance has come in Monster Hunter Generations and Generations Ultimate. One of the largest Fanged Beasts in series history, Gammoth is a huge, female woolly mammoth-esque monster capable of whipping up icy vortexes. Having not appeared for so long, Wilds players were hoping the creature would make a return this time around. However, they have slowly come to the realization that the only suitable map, Iceshard Cliffs, is probably too small for it.

Given the size of Gammoth and the narrow pathways the Iceshard Cliffs is comprised of, it’s unlikely it will fit on the map. This has drawn disappointment from the community. As one hunter, Ritushido, put it: 'Yeah, it sucks; Gore Magala already feels awful fighting there due to the cramped space and fighting the camera; I think they dropped the ball with this region tbh, should have had some snowy plains sections.'

I mean, they’re not wrong. Fighting Gore Magala in the Iceshard Cliffs is like trying to wrestle a caffeinated octopus in a phone booth. Add a mammoth the size of a small building to that equation? Good luck. The camera would file a restraining order.

Zamtrios: The Shark-Narwhal-Dragon That Also Can’t Fit

After accepting that Gammoth wouldn’t be suitable for the Iceshard Cliffs, the discussion moved onto another underutilized monster: Zamtrios. Zamtrios is what you’d get if a shark, a narwhal, and a dragon had a baby. It’s another monster that thrives in icy environments and also another monster that hasn’t appeared since Generations Ultimate. Unsurprisingly, players want it back. Unfortunately, they feel it will have the same problems as Gammoth.

Replying to the original post, TheTimorie spoke for everybody when they said: 'To make it worse, Zamtrios doesn't fit there either...'

Ouch. That one hurts. Zamtrios is a fantastic fight — inflating like a spiky balloon, rolling around, and generally being a menace. But in a map made of narrow corridors and tiny arenas, it would be like trying to park a monster truck in a bicycle shed. Not happening.

Let’s break down the spatial tragedy:

Monster Ideal Habitat Iceshard Cliffs Fit? Player Mood
Gammoth Wide snowy plains ❌ Too big 😭 Devastated
Zamtrios Icy waters and open ice ❌ Too cramped 😭 Also devastated
Bazelgeuse Anywhere with explosions 🤔 Maybe? 😈 Chaotic
Gore Magala Anywhere with camera issues 😤 Already suffering 🤬 Frustrated

So what’s the solution? It’s time for Capcom to introduce a new giant ice area in a future update. I’m talking a proper frozen tundra. Wide open snowfields. Massive ice caves. Enough room for Gammoth to do a full 360 without clipping into a wall. Then bring back Zamtrios. Then maybe Bazelgeuse for the chaos. We’ll even pay for the expansion. Probably. Okay, definitely.

Why Smaller Maps Are a Double-Edged Sword

Look, I get it. Monster Hunter Wilds’ maps are more intricate and seamless than ever. The Iceshard Cliffs look gorgeous, and the verticality is neat. But there’s a trade-off. When you shrink the arenas, you limit the monsters that can inhabit them. You can’t have a grand, sweeping battle against a colossal beast if the beast’s tail keeps knocking over the local flora and the camera is stuck in a rock.

Is it fair to blame Capcom? Maybe not entirely. Game development is hard. But when fans have been asking for Gammoth and Zamtrios for years, and the only ice map is a cramped hallway, it’s hard not to feel a little salty. We’re not asking for much. Just a frozen paradise where giant monsters can roam free and hunters can dodge without hitting an invisible wall.

So here’s my plea, Capcom: give us the ice map of our dreams. A place where Gammoth can trumpet majestically, Zamtrios can roll around like a deranged beach ball, and Gore Magala can finally fight without the camera having an existential crisis. Do that, and you’ll make a lot of hunters very happy. And maybe, just maybe, we’ll stop making passive-aggressive posts on Reddit.

After all, what’s the point of a Monster Hunter game if you can’t hunt a monster the size of a bus without the camera having a meltdown? Exactly. Now excuse me while I go cry into my frosty mug of hot chocolate.
